About this role
Role overview A Senior Site Reliability Engineer is sought to own and evolve the infrastructure platform that powers consumer-facing outdoor mapping products used by millions. The role centers on infrastructure-as-code, deployment automation, observability, and incident response across a distributed engineering organization.
Responsibilities - Deploy, monitor, and maintain highly available systems using Terraform, Kubernetes, managed SQL, Bigtable, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Run, object storage, and orchestration tooling such as Airflow. - Maintain and extend a large, mature Terraform codebase that defines the production environment. - Analyze systems and recommend changes that improve performance and availability while controlling cost. - Automate manual workflows to reduce operational toil. - Build integrations with third-party monitoring and alerting platforms and drive incident response practices across on-call engineering teams. - Partner on architectural decisions affecting shared services and platform initiatives.
Requirements - Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. - Five or more years of experience overall, with at least three years supporting production systems at scale. - Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes, networking, and infrastructure-as-code using Terraform or OpenTofu. - Familiarity with at least one major cloud platform and a working understanding of SQL, NoSQL, and object storage tradeoffs. - Solid computer science foundation and a craft-oriented mindset focused on continuous improvement.
Nice to have - Experience with Google Cloud Platform, including IAM, auditing, and security management. - Background with high-throughput, low-latency services and distributed teams. - Familiarity with GIS mapping systems, Airflow or equivalent ETL platforms, and AI-assisted development tooling.
