Mechatronics Engineer

Role overview Design and develop automated equipment and robotic systems for remote material handling in a fuel recycling environment. The work spans system architecture, CAD design, controls integration, prototyping, testing, and documentation, with close coordination across engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities - Design robotic and electromechanical equipment for high-temperature, corrosive, and radiation-exposed environments. - Define system architectures, specifications, control logic, and performance criteria for automated processes. - Integrate automation hardware, sensors, and control systems to support dependable unmanned operation. - Lead assigned systems through design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance. - Build and test prototypes, refine designs, and document technical results for project teams and regulatory use.

Requirements - Engineering degree in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, robotics, electrical engineering, or a related field. - 5–10 years of experience designing automation or robotic systems. - Hands-on experience with PLCs, industrial automation, and robotics programming. - Advanced CAD capability; SolidWorks is preferred. - Broad engineering knowledge, systems integration judgment, and clear technical communication.

Nice to have Experience with robotic arms, conveyors, hazardous or remote environments, radiological hot cells, or equipment operating above 500°C; knowledge of GD&T and design for manufacturing; simulation experience such as ANSYS, ROS, or MATLAB/Simulink; work in nuclear, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, pilot plant, or unmanned manufacturing settings. Proximity to Oak Ridge, Tennessee is preferred.
