Job details
About this role
Role overview Develop the requirements and operating concepts for equipment used in radioactive waste treatment, from early definition through procurement, integration, and readiness for operation. The work focuses on translating process needs into practical vendor-delivered systems, with attention to reliability, maintainability, contamination control, remote operation, and fit within a nuclear facility.
Responsibilities - Define mechanical requirements, equipment specifications, operating concepts, and acceptance criteria for waste treatment systems. - Translate process needs into equipment approaches for processing, packaging, storage, and material handling. - Review vendor designs and proposals for function, maintainability, reliability, contamination control, remote operation, and lifecycle performance. - Review equipment layouts, P&IDs, material flows, tooling concepts, and mechanical interfaces; identify ways to simplify or improve operability. - Support procurement through vendor research, technical specifications, proposal evaluations, and review of design deliverables. - Coordinate multidisciplinary design reviews, document design bases and interfaces, and support hazard reviews, licensing, commissioning, and facility integration.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field and at least five years of relevant experience. - Experience developing, specifying, integrating, or implementing industrial process equipment. - Experience working with equipment suppliers, technical specifications, procurement packages, or design reviews. - Experience with 3D CAD, fabrication drawings, equipment specifications, and controlled design records. - Familiarity with P&IDs, equipment layouts, process interfaces, material handling, and vendor design packages. - Practical engineering judgment about maintainability, reliability, fabrication, inspection, and failure modes, plus clear documentation and cross-disciplinary coordination skills.
