Software Development Engineer II (Remote @ Colombia)

Role overview

Build backend services and event-driven systems that support interactions between marketplace buyers and sellers, including messaging, alerts, location-related features, and subscriptions. You’ll take features from planning through release and measurement, working with product, design, data, and client application teams. The role also involves improving the reliability of high-volume services and learning from experiments and production use.

Responsibilities

- Design, implement, and deploy backend services and streaming or event-driven pipelines. - Improve the reliability, latency, and delivery performance of messaging and notification systems, including retry and rate-control behavior. - Integrate and operate external messaging, push notification, and billing services. - Own features end to end, from technical planning and implementation through rollout, measurement, and iteration. - Collaborate across disciplines, contribute to experiments, and use results to guide product decisions. - Review code, improve shared components and operational guidance, and participate in team on-call support.

Requirements

- At least 2 years of professional software engineering experience and a degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience. - Strong Java skills and working knowledge of microservices and distributed systems. - Understanding of data structures, object-oriented design, and asynchronous event processing, including retries and idempotency. - Experience delivering multiple features end to end and breaking larger engineering work into achievable tasks. - Familiarity with AI coding tools in a real development workflow and judgment about their appropriate use. - Good testing and code review habits, attention to edge cases, and a willingness to learn from feedback and production results.

Nice to have

- Experience with TypeScript or Node.js, REST APIs, Agile development, AWS services, notification platforms, streaming systems, experimentation or analytics tools, LLM APIs, Kubernetes, or CI/CD.
