Role overview Join a multi-talented hardware team building the next generation of Wi-Fi connected smart home devices that help households stay warm and reduce energy use. As an Embedded Firmware Engineer focused on IoT, you will drive firmware through its full lifecycle, shaping the software that powers these connected products and collaborating closely with platform and app engineering counterparts. The position is offered as majority remote, complemented by time on-site in London and Slough.
Responsibilities - Write well-structured, testable, efficient, and maintainable firmware for connected devices within a cross-functional product team. - Take ownership of IoT products and features, delivering modular, high-quality code suitable for ongoing field deployment. - Manage tickets and development efforts with both hardware and software colleagues, coordinating work across the stack. - Investigate and resolve bugs alongside customer-facing and software teams, and implement new features end to end. - Participate in code reviews, upholding a high bar for quality, and flex across projects to meet demanding, customer-driven deadlines. - Proactively learn new technologies and skills as project needs evolve.
Requirements - Proficiency in C for real-time operation on highly constrained microcontrollers and custom hardware, using official vendor APIs. - Hands-on experience with Real-Time Operating Systems such as FreeRTOS. - Fluency in scripting languages such as Python or Bash, plus version control with Git. - Ability to read schematics and data sheets to support hardware and software debugging. - Practical knowledge of common serial protocols including SPI, I2C, UART, RS232, and Modbus, plus networking fundamentals like MAC, IP, TCP, TLS, and DHCP. - Familiarity with IoT security technologies and best practices.
