Remote job
Software Engineering Intern
Job details
About this role
Role overview
This software engineering internship offers hands-on product development rather than observation-only work. You will contribute to real features, open pull requests, and see your work reach users early, while working closely with an engineer who reviews your code and helps you understand the reasoning behind technical decisions.
Responsibilities
- Implement and ship product features with support from an experienced engineer and a clear quality standard. - Open pull requests and incorporate feedback through the review process. - Create automated tests for the code you add and address issues identified by those tests. - Spend time reading and navigating an existing codebase before and alongside writing new code. - Build a practical understanding of how the product is structured and how changes affect the wider system. - Ask questions early when requirements, implementation details, or unfamiliar code are unclear.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of TypeScript or Python. - At least one project, application, or other example of software you have built that can be reviewed. - Availability for a minimum of three months. - Ability to work mostly full-time during the internship period. - Willingness to learn through code review, documentation, investigation, and regular feedback. - A proactive communication style, including raising questions instead of remaining blocked without support.
Nice to have
- Experience with React, Node.js, PostgreSQL, or projects involving language models. - Open-source contributions, meaningful side projects, or participation in a hackathon you found engaging.
Benefits and work setup
The internship includes close pairing with an engineer who reviews your work and explains the rationale behind suggested changes. The role is designed to provide direct experience with production-oriented development, testing, pull requests, and working within an existing software system.
