Job details
About this role
Role overview Develop the firmware and hardware interfaces that help robotic inspection platforms operate reliably in demanding field conditions. The role covers control boards, sensors, communications, power systems, and testing, bridging embedded subsystems with the wider autonomy stack.
Responsibilities - Build firmware for robotic control boards, sensor interfaces, and communications modules. - Develop hardware abstraction layers for sensors, actuators, and power systems. - Implement and optimise interfaces including CAN, RS-485, SPI, I2C, and Ethernet. - Connect embedded subsystems to autonomy software through ROS 2 hardware interfaces. - Design and validate power management for extended field operation. - Support PCB reviews and hardware bring-up, and develop automated and hardware-in-the-loop test setups.
Requirements - At least 3 years of production embedded firmware development in C or C++. - Experience with real-time operating systems such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr, or comparable bare-metal patterns. - Strong understanding of protocols including CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, and RS-485. - Experience integrating embedded systems with Linux-based compute platforms. - Ability to read schematics and contribute to hardware design discussions.
Nice to have Experience in industrial, robotics, or safety-critical embedded systems is valued.
Benefits and work setup Flexible or remote work is available within Australia, with office options in Melbourne and Sydney. Periodic travel to infrastructure, rail, and construction deployment sites is expected.
