Role overview This is a senior database administration role supporting enterprise Oracle environments for a major U.S. federal publishing agency. The position is remote within the United States and centers on owning the health, performance, and availability of Oracle systems spanning on-premises and cloud infrastructure. The work blends hands-on technical execution with mentoring and operational reporting.
Responsibilities - Administer and maintain Oracle databases, including Grid infrastructure and RMAN-based backup and recovery - Lead patching cycles, software installations, and server maintenance, including periodic after-hours work - Design, test, and document high-availability, disaster recovery, and point-in-time recovery solutions - Tune performance at the SQL optimizer, instance, and storage levels to keep systems responsive under load - Diagnose and resolve database and application-layer issues, including integrations with content platforms - Process change requests and service tickets from intake through closeout, meeting defined SLAs - Monitor capacity and system health using Idera and SolarWinds tooling - Mentor a mid-level DBA and deliver weekly status reports to stakeholders
Requirements - 8+ years of hands-on Oracle database administration experience in production environments - Working knowledge of Oracle Grid, RMAN, PL/SQL, and HA/DR patterns - Familiarity with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, and MS Access - Experience creating and managing standalone Oracle database instances - Ability to work independently and communicate clearly with technical staff and management
Nice to have - Oracle OCP or OCM certification - Oracle Cloud Infrastructure experience - Prior federal or large enterprise support background
Benefits and work setup - Full-time, remote within the U.S., contingent on contract award - Eight-hour days scheduled between 7:30 AM and 6:00 PM ET, with periodic scheduled after-hours work for patching and reboots - Anticipated start of November 16, 2026
