About this role
Role overview Build and improve an open source networking platform for people who self-host services, run homelabs, or want to adapt the software to their own setups. This is a hands-on engineering role spanning product code, developer tooling, documentation, and collaboration with contributors; you’ll also help guide technical decisions and turn community feedback into useful features.
Responsibilities - Develop and ship features for self-hosted and local deployments, working across the software stack. - Turn issues, discussions, and user feedback into practical code changes. - Improve setup flows, documentation, examples, and the experience of contributing to the project. - Maintain development tools and workflows for Docker, Kubernetes, and self-hosted environments. - Review and work alongside community contributors on pull requests. - Explore integrations and ideas that make the platform easier to use and extend.
Requirements - At least three years of software engineering experience, with strong full-stack skills. - Experience building, maintaining, or leading open source projects, and leading technical initiatives. - Strong knowledge of backend systems, APIs, and distributed architectures, alongside experience with frontend technologies and developer-facing interfaces. - Ability to make architectural decisions and explain them clearly. - Experience with Go, TypeScript, React, or comparable modern technologies, and solid unit and integration testing practices. - Strong written and spoken English, with a collaborative, community-minded approach.
Nice to have - Familiarity with networking, security, or zero-trust architectures. - Experience setting technical direction or managing roadmaps, growing developer communities, or contributing meaningfully on GitHub.
Benefits and work setup - Compensation includes salary and equity. - Hybrid arrangement with time in a Berlin office and remote work. - Significant ownership and influence over product direction, architecture, and community experience.
