Senior Software Engineer (Ruby)

Role overview This senior software engineering role focuses on building and modernizing large-scale web applications for public services. Working on a small, collaborative team, you will contribute across the product lifecycle—from technical planning and architecture through implementation, release, and production support—with an emphasis on usable, accessible, secure, and reliable systems.

Responsibilities - Design, build, and review full-stack software, primarily using Ruby on Rails and TypeScript. - Work with public-sector partners and other delivery teams to plan, architect, deploy, and improve digital services. - Ship user-focused changes iteratively and contribute to technical decisions across the application lifecycle. - Improve development, testing, and production workflows through automation and supporting tools. - Write technical documentation, review code, and contribute to engineering quality and team practices. - Participate in production on-call support and investigate service issues; contribute to hiring activities as needed.

Requirements - At least 12 years of full-stack engineering experience, including independently driving development work with limited supervision. - Experience building both front-end and back-end features for web-based systems and large-scale applications. - Experience with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, and TypeScript, plus modern web frameworks and automated testing. - Strong grounding in software engineering, system design, and application architecture, including scalability, availability, and performance. - Ability to collaborate with clients and teammates, communicate clearly, and give and receive feedback constructively. - A thoughtful, adaptable approach to solving engineering problems and supporting healthy team practices.
