Operations and Automation Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview This engineering role sits at the intersection of spacecraft operations and software automation, supporting a fleet of low-Earth-orbit satellites and the ground systems that drive them. The position focuses on building automation that keeps missions running reliably while scaling an expanding manifest with a small operations team, and is open to remote work from approved locations.
Responsibilities - Design and implement automation for spacecraft and ground-station workflows that enable safe, parallel execution of multiple missions. - Partner with engineering disciplines to carry out satellite operation plans and maintain service continuity. - Review telemetry and health reports to evaluate system performance and surface early warning signs. - Investigate and resolve on-orbit anomalies, applying established procedures plus hands-on technical judgment. - Plan and execute orbit corrections, station-keeping maneuvers, and other positioning activities. - Support integration of new satellites into the fleet, smoothing the path from launch through commissioning.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. - 5+ years operating or automating complex technical systems. - Proficiency in Python, Julia, or another high-level scripting language. - Strong communicator who collaborates well across teams and makes sound decisions under pressure. - Self-directed problem solver who can also contribute effectively as part of a small group.
Nice to have - Prior experience automating complex systems end-to-end. - Hands-on operations background with spacecraft, ground stations, or comparable communications infrastructure. - Working knowledge of satellite subsystems including power, propulsion, communication, and payload. - Familiarity with ITU and FCC regulatory frameworks relevant to satellite operations.
Benefits and work setup - Salary range $143,000–$201,000 plus equity and a benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, a 401(k), short- and long-term disability, life insurance, three weeks of paid vacation, 12 paid holidays, unlimited sick time, and paid parental leave.
