About this role

Role overview

Design and maintain the onboard network architecture that connects compute nodes, sensors, controllers, and other vehicle systems. The work spans current and next-generation autonomous vehicle platforms, combining software development with system-level design to support high-throughput, low-latency, predictable, and resilient communications. The position is hybrid, based around offices in Pittsburgh, Boston, or Las Vegas, with regular in-office days.

Responsibilities - Define physical and logical network topologies for existing and future vehicle platforms. - Develop protocol stacks, communication standards, and messaging layers across onboard devices. - Build software for routing, monitoring, fault detection, diagnostics, and failover. - Set performance budgets, QoS policies, segmentation approaches, and bandwidth and latency constraints. - Create telemetry to track network health, utilization, packet loss, and real-time performance. - Investigate system-level faults and plan provisioning, maintenance, and over-the-air updates for network hardware. - Work with hardware, platform, and autonomy teams on component selection and technical roadmaps.

Requirements - Strong software engineering background with experience writing and debugging production code. - Deep understanding of embedded network architecture, topology, and system communication flows. - Hands-on knowledge of protocols such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP, and CAN or CAN-FD. - Proficiency in a modern programming language; C++ is preferred. - Experience with network security, traffic prioritization, QoS, and network isolation. - Ability to build telemetry, packet-inspection, and automated diagnostic tools, and explain design decisions to varied engineering teams.

Nice to have Modern C++ in embedded Linux or automotive environments; AUTOSAR, DDS, ROS or ROS 2; automotive switches, PHYs, or compute platforms; hardware-in-the-loop or network stress testing; Linux networking internals, drivers, socket programming, or eBPF; automotive cybersecurity; or Bazel.
