Role overview This role leads a team of Data Scientists embedded within a product or business area of a tech-driven organisation where data shapes both strategy and product development. The position blends hands-on people leadership with strategic data leadership, partnering closely with senior stakeholders across Product, Engineering and the wider business. The manager is expected to set direction, raise analytical standards and translate insight into measurable customer and commercial outcomes.
Responsibilities - Lead, develop and grow a team of Data Scientists and other Data professionals, including hiring, coaching and retention - Set the data science direction for the area and identify where analytics can drive the greatest customer and business impact - Partner with Product, Engineering and senior leaders to shape strategy and influence product direction - Bring analytical rigour to complex and ambiguous problems, turning them into clear, actionable opportunities - Ensure teams apply the right analytical approaches, from experimentation and causal inference through to statistical modelling and machine learning - Collaborate with Analytics Engineering, Machine Learning and other data disciplines so teams have the data, tooling and infrastructure they need
Requirements - Significant experience managing and developing Data Scientists - A strong strategic data leader who uses data to influence decisions and direction - Experience partnering with senior and executive stakeholders across different functions and levels of seniority - Comfortable working autonomously in a fast-growing and evolving organisation - Strong understanding of Data Science approaches including experimentation, causal inference, statistical analysis and machine learning - Proficiency with Python and SQL, with judgement in choosing the right analytical approach for a problem - Strong product judgement and experience using Data Science to shape product development and strategy
Nice to have - Experience helping Data Scientists develop their technical, product and leadership capabilities - Ability to balance technical excellence with pragmatic decision-making and business impact - Credibility with Product, Engineering and senior business leaders, and the ability to influence without relying on authority
Benefits and work setup - Salary range of £100,000 to £130,000 plus performance-linked incentive awards and a benefits package - Based in London, with the option of distributed working across the UK and ad hoc meetings in London - Relocation support to the UK and visa sponsorship available - Flexible working hours with autonomy over how and when work is done - Annual learning budget of £1,000 for books, training courses and conferences
