Role overview

This is a senior leadership role guiding a team of data scientists embedded within a product or business area at a digital-first UK bank. The position blends people management with strategic data leadership, partnering closely with product, engineering, and executive stakeholders to ensure data shapes how decisions are made and how products evolve.

Responsibilities

- Lead, develop, and grow a team of data scientists and other data professionals, hiring, coaching, and retaining talent. - Set the data science direction for the area and identify where analytics can have the greatest customer and business impact. - Partner with product, engineering, and senior stakeholders to shape strategy and influence product direction. - Bring analytical rigour to complex and ambiguous problems, translating them into clear, actionable opportunities. - Ensure teams apply the right approaches, from experimentation and causal inference through to statistical modelling and machine learning. - Work with analytics engineering, machine learning, and other data disciplines to make sure teams have the data, tooling, and infrastructure they need.

Requirements

- Significant experience managing and developing data scientists. - A track record of using data strategically to influence decisions and direction at senior levels. - Experience partnering with senior and executive stakeholders across multiple functions. - Strong grounding in data science methods, including experimentation, causal inference, statistical analysis, and machine learning. - Comfort with Python and SQL, and the judgement to choose the right analytical approach for a given problem. - Ability to build credibility with product and engineering leaders and influence without relying on authority.
