Job details
About this role
Role overview A Data Director is needed to lead the data function for European expansion of a digital consumer bank. The role combines hands-on analytical leadership with strategic ownership of product, commercial, and learning loops across new European markets, with no existing playbook. Based in London, Barcelona, or remotely within the UK, the position sits on the EU Tech Leadership team and partners with the EU CEO, country managers, VP of Product, and global leadership including the CTO and Head of Data.
Responsibilities - Own the data strategy for EU expansion, including the events logged, metrics defined, experiments run, and forecasts used to guide each new market. - Lead goal-setting for EU expansion, bringing clarity to metric selection, target setting, and partnership with Finance. - Shape product and commercial strategy by sizing opportunities, finding product-market fit, and weighing pricing, positioning, and growth levers in markets that often lack historical data. - Co-own the product development loop with EU leadership, product, and engineering, including defining what good looks like and building the systems that answer open questions. - Act as a senior voice on the EU Tech Leadership team, reframing hard problems and quantifying trade-offs between customer value and business value. - Grow and develop a full-stack data team of individual contributors and managers, representing data at executive and C-level forums.
Requirements - Significant senior experience leading data functions at company or division level, including goal-setting, metric definition, target setting, and close partnership with Finance. - Proven ability to influence how an organization makes decisions, not just individual project outcomes, with experience of cross-functional collaboration across business areas. - Experience leading full-stack data teams covering data science, analytics engineering, and machine learning, and growing both individual contributors and people managers. - Comfort working in ambiguity, bringing analytical rigour and commercial judgement to bets that must be made before data is complete. - Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, and retain top data talent, and to represent the data discipline at ExCo and C-level. - Experience entering new markets or launching new products where measurement infrastructure has to be built from scratch.
Nice to have - Background in consumer banking, fintech, or other regulated financial services. - Experience scaling data functions across multiple countries or regions.
Benefits and work setup - Salary range of £150,900 to £204,100 plus stock options and benefits. - Visa sponsorship and relocation support available. - Flexible working hours with trust-based autonomy over how work is scheduled. - Annual learning budget of £1,000 for books, training courses, and conferences. - Home working setup provided, including a Macbook and additional support for fully remote workers. - Interview process includes a recruiter call, hiring manager call, four one-hour interviews with team members, and a meet-and-greet with a member of the EU Executive Committee, typically running three to four weeks.
