Remote job
Senior Backend Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A senior engineering role focused on building the core backend systems, distributed services, and agentic workflows behind a platform that helps enterprises monitor and trust production AI systems. The position is primarily backend-oriented, though the engineer will occasionally ship React front-end surfaces when a feature calls for it. Expect ambiguity: problems arrive as statements rather than specs, and the engineer is expected to take them from prototype through architecture, deployment, and ongoing ownership.
Responsibilities
- Take loosely defined problem statements through the full lifecycle: rapid prototyping, architecture selection, implementation, testing, deployment, and post-launch ownership. - Build and operate production-grade Python backend services and APIs that power the core platform and agentic systems. - Design, scale, and maintain distributed systems that stay reliable, observable, and performant as customer data and agent volume grow. - Start with simple, flexible designs and evolve them as the product and organization scale, avoiding premature complexity. - Develop and maintain data pipelines that support analytics, machine learning, and customer-facing features. - Collaborate with product, ML, and infrastructure teammates to deliver customer value, including React interfaces where needed to finish a feature end to end.
Requirements
- 5+ years shipping production backend services, with strong Python (or an equivalent backend language) and hands-on experience designing, running, and debugging APIs and services under load. - Demonstrated experience building and scaling distributed architectures, with practical knowledge of the tradeoffs around reliability, consistency, and observability in production. - A track record of 0-to-1 ownership: taking ambiguous problems from a blank page to a deployed product, moving with urgency and treating outcomes as your own. - Experience with data pipelines or data-heavy systems running on AWS and other cloud-native services. - Frontend experience, ideally with React, sufficient to ship a complete feature when needed.
Nice to have
- PySpark and ML platform experience. - Familiarity with agentic or LLM-powered systems.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-first environment. - Competitive compensation and equity.
