Backend Engineer

Role overview A senior backend engineering role builds the production services, APIs, and data layers that other parts of the product depend on, with a strong emphasis on correctness, scalability, and observability. The position operates within a delivery team alongside clients, product, and other engineers, working in an environment that actively embraces agentic AI coding tools as part of everyday practice.

Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain scalable services in Node and TypeScript. - Design and implement REST APIs, and GraphQL where appropriate. - Model relational data and safeguard data integrity and performance in PostgreSQL. - Review code, including AI-generated code, for quality and consistency. - Troubleshoot and resolve complex backend issues. - Contribute to team standards, tooling, and architectural decisions.

Requirements - Five or more years of backend development experience with strong Node and TypeScript skills. - Solid experience designing and implementing REST APIs. - Strong PostgreSQL and relational data modeling expertise. - Experience building on AWS services such as Lambda, SQS, SNS, and S3. - A solid grasp of service architecture and distributed systems. - Good testing habits and disciplined engineering rigor. - Strong English communication skills and the ability to explain technical trade-offs clearly. - Comfort working in a fast-paced, agile consulting environment.

Nice to have - Experience integrating large language models or building AI-backed services. - Familiarity with event-driven systems and message queues. - Experience with Docker and Kubernetes. - Depth in another ecosystem such as Python or Go. - Open-source work that can be shared as a portfolio link.
