Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE)

Role overview A Forward Deployed Engineer embeds directly inside enterprise engineering organizations to drive adoption of automated code transformation at scale. The position blends hands-on technical work with strategic advisory responsibilities, helping large customer teams modernize massive codebases and integrate AI-assisted development into their workflows. This is a customer-facing delivery role, not a traditional support function, with a strong emphasis on translating modernization goals into repeatable, automated outcomes.

Responsibilities - Own post-sales technical execution across a portfolio of enterprise accounts, serving as the primary technical point of contact and a subject matter expert on automated code refactoring. - Partner with engineering leadership, including VPs of Engineering and Principal Architects, to plan and execute large-scale modernization programs such as framework upgrades across thousands of microservices and vulnerability remediation. - Develop and extend custom refactoring recipes using an open-source transformation framework, supporting multiple languages and contributing to broader community coverage. - Collaborate with internal Platform Engineering and Customer Success teams to deliver mass-scale modernization engagements end-to-end. - Analyze patterns emerging from AI-generated code, identifying new modernization and remediation needs and translating them into durable, reusable recipes. - Support and enable contributions from customers and the open-source community to expand available transformation coverage.

Requirements - 10+ years of experience in software development or in hands-on Solutions Architecture, technical account management, or software consulting roles. - Strong familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows, including coding assistants, LLM-based code generation, or agent frameworks operating on codebases. - Deep knowledge of the Java/JVM ecosystem and dependency management with Maven or Gradle; comfort with additional supported ecosystems such as .NET or Python. - Hands-on experience with enterprise CI/CD systems (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) and artifact management tools (e.g., Artifactory, Nexus). - Proven ability to manage relationships with large enterprise customers and navigate complex technical and organizational environments. - Strong troubleshooting mindset for build failures and static analysis edge cases; willingness to pass background checks required for client system access.

Nice to have - Experience with additional languages such as JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, or .NET. - Hands-on familiarity with open-source code transformation tooling, including lossless semantic tree representations and recipe authoring. - Background with static analysis and SAST platforms such as SonarQube or Checkmarx. - Knowledge of application security vulnerability detection and remediation practices. - Prior participation in large-scale migration projects, for example Java 8 to 17 upgrades.
