Role overview
A senior backend engineering role on a remote-first team building the services that power consumer-facing mobile products. The position focuses on architecting reliable systems, scaling infrastructure, and shipping features that directly shape product performance and user experience. It is a hands-on, high-impact opportunity for an engineer who enjoys complex systems problems, scalable APIs, and rapid collaboration with product, design, data, and frontend teams.
Responsibilities
- Architect backend systems supporting user workflows, notifications, and automation features - Design and build APIs and microservices engineered for performance, efficiency, and scale - Work with high-volume data systems, event-driven architectures, queues, and asynchronous data flows across distributed services - Strengthen observability, monitoring, logging, testing, and alerting practices - Identify performance bottlenecks and lead optimization efforts to improve speed and resilience - Build resilient integrations with third-party services and uphold uptime and production stability - Contribute to system design and architecture reviews while partnering with cross-functional teammates in 2-week sprints with CI/CD
Requirements
- 6+ years of backend engineering experience in consumer apps, mobile, or SaaS, including 2+ years at a senior level - Expert-level proficiency in Ruby on Rails, including modern versions and best practices - Hands-on production experience with PostgreSQL covering schema design, indexing, query optimization, and performance tuning - Strong experience with Sidekiq for background job processing, including scheduling, throttling, batching, and reliability patterns - Proficiency in Redis for caching, job queues, and distributed locking - Experience with DynamoDB or comparable NoSQL databases - Solid grounding in API design, RESTful principles, versioning, and serialization - Familiarity with AWS services such as S3, DynamoDB, SQS, CloudWatch, and SES - Strong skills in testing, CI/CD pipelines, logging and monitoring, debugging, and performance optimization
