Sr. Backend Engineer (Remote)

Role overview This is a fully remote senior backend engineering role focused on owning and evolving production systems for a consumer-scale mobile and SaaS platform. The work spans APIs, microservices, event-driven pipelines, and high-volume data systems that power user workflows, notifications, and automation. Expect close partnership with product, design, data, and frontend teams inside an AI-native engineering culture.

Responsibilities - Architect and scale backend services that support user workflows, notifications, and automation across a global consumer base - Design and evolve APIs and microservices optimized for performance, efficiency, and high-volume traffic - Improve observability, monitoring, logging, testing, and alerting across services, and address performance bottlenecks - Build distributed systems with multiple services, queues, external APIs, and asynchronous data flows, ensuring uptime and resilience - Integrate third-party services reliably and participate in system design and architecture reviews - Ship work in two-week sprints using CI/CD and strong code quality practices, including hands-on use of modern AI coding and agentic tools

Requirements - 6+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally in consumer apps, mobile, or SaaS environments - At least 2 years operating at a senior level with ownership of an existing production system or codebase - Strong debugging skills across systems you did not originally design, including incomplete documentation and ambiguous contexts - Ability to identify technical risks and prioritize fixes versus accepted debt - Track record of integrating backend services across teams, data systems, APIs, and operational workflows - Comfort working across distributed architectures, microservices, queues, and asynchronous data flows

Nice to have - Background evolving inherited systems while maintaining product velocity and customer reliability - Experience with high-volume data systems, event-driven architectures, and pragmatic technical-debt management
