Job details
About this role
Role overview A remote DevOps / Network Engineer position focused on running and evolving a globally distributed consumer VPN service. The role centers on taking ownership of infrastructure inherited from an acquired product, then progressively hardening it for reliability, automation, security, and cost efficiency. You will partner closely with engineering leadership and backend/mobile engineers to deliver a fast, private, censorship-resistant service used around the world.
Responsibilities - Operate a multi-provider VPN network spanning several cloud and hosting platforms alongside AWS-hosted control plane and backend services. - Document an inherited production environment and identify the largest reliability, security, and cost risks. - Replace manual operational tasks with infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tooling. - Build and refine monitoring, alerting, and incident response practices to drive uptime toward best-in-class levels. - Ship tested, version-controlled infrastructure changes in two-week sprints with safe rollback paths. - Apply agentic AI coding and automation tools throughout investigation, documentation, and operations, with appropriate human review before production changes.
Requirements - 5+ years of professional DevOps, SRE, or network engineering experience in an agile environment running production infrastructure. - Hands-on AWS experience across EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS/PostgreSQL, Route 53, IAM, VPC, and CloudWatch, plus at least one additional provider. - Strong infrastructure-as-code skills with Terraform and Ansible, plus Docker and container or fleet orchestration for many distributed nodes. - Deep Linux and security knowledge including iptables/nftables, WireGuard, routing, NAT, DNS, TLS, traffic shaping, secrets management, and least-privilege access. - Production VPN, proxy, or large-scale networking experience with technologies such as WireGuard, Shadowsocks, OpenVPN, or IKEv2/IPsec. - Scripting and automation fluency in Python, Go, or Bash, plus CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions or equivalent.
Nice to have - Familiarity with Datadog or Prometheus/Grafana, Cloudflare, and on-call workflows. - Compliance exposure such as GDPR, CCPA, and SOC 2.
Benefits and work setup - 100% remote-first, global company with open PTO, generous company holidays, and wellness days for full-time team members. - Equity plan participation, a bonus program, peer recognition platform, and weekly meeting-free focus days.
