Role overview A senior-level Python engineering role focused on building and scaling backend systems that power machine-learning and generative AI features. The position sits within a Python chapter and may be placed on one of several cross-functional product teams, working end-to-end from architecture through production ownership. It is a remote role open to candidates across the UK, Europe, and the Americas within UTC-7 to UTC+3.
Responsibilities - Design and develop resilient Python services and applications that integrate cleanly within a distributed, service-oriented architecture. - Build and maintain core components of ML systems, including data orchestration and processing pipelines built for scale. - Deliver new AI features end-to-end, working alongside data scientists and ML engineers from experimentation through productionisation. - Develop observability for ML and LLM integrations using tooling such as Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, and the wider Grafana stack. - Mentor peers on software craft, code clarity, testability, and overall developer experience. - Respond to incidents affecting ML-backed applications and continuously improve reliability and performance.
Requirements - Staff or lead-level experience writing production Python, with strong grasp of language fundamentals, async patterns, optimisation, and memory management. - Hands-on experience with FastAPI and familiarity with complex, data-intensive architectures and networking. - Proven ability to set technical standards, defend architectural trade-offs, and drive good engineering practices. - Demonstrated mentoring experience across software development patterns and fundamentals. - Track record of reducing technical debt and improving team processes. - Fluent English with the ability to communicate abstract ideas and complex trade-offs clearly.
Nice to have - Experience as a founding or early member of an engineering team. - Background in fast-growing scale-up environments delivering value iteratively. - Working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform.
