Role overview A fintech company is hiring a Machine Learning-focused Data Scientist to strengthen its Risk team's fraud defenses and customer-monitoring capabilities. The role spans real-time fraud detection and broader financial-crime risk, partnering across product, engineering, and risk strategy to deliver trustworthy banking experiences for customers. It suits an applied ML practitioner who cares about reproducibility, observability, and high-impact production systems.
Responsibilities - Build, validate, and deploy machine learning models that identify and prevent fraud in real time. - Support reproducibility and robustness of production models through documentation, testing, and ongoing monitoring. - Ensure data quality and reliability across pipelines and internal tooling. - Collaborate with Risk Strategy on ideation for model inputs and applications, and partner with Engineering to optimize deployment and observability. - Help monitor customer behavior for financial-crime risk alongside first- and third-party fraud.
Requirements - 5 or more years of experience analyzing large datasets to solve problems and drive impact, including 3 or more years of hands-on ML experience. - Proficiency in SQL and comfort using it to understand and manage imperfect data. - Proficiency in Python with experience in statistical modeling and machine learning. - Experience deploying and monitoring machine learning models in production environments. - Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
Nice to have - 1 or more years of relevant risk experience, ideally in fraud or financial crime. - Familiarity with large language models or other generative AI techniques applied to risk or fraud detection. - Experience with modern data tools for pipelines and ETL, such as dbt. - Exposure to model governance practices used in finance or other regulated industries. - Experience building zero-to-one solutions in ambiguous or greenfield problem spaces.
Benefits and work setup - Total rewards package includes base salary, equity in the form of stock options or RSUs, and benefits. - Target new hire base salary range for US employees in any location: $166,600 to $250,900 USD. - Target new hire base salary range for Canadian employees in any location: $157,400 to $237,100 CAD. - Compensation is calibrated using industry survey data and adjusted for experience, expertise, location, and internal pay equity.
