Role overview A staff-level backend engineering position focused on setting technical direction for platform and product teams within a healthcare technology organization. The role centers on architecting and maintaining scalable, performant, and reliable systems that power women's and family health programs and a direct-to-consumer virtual care platform. It is a senior individual-contributor leadership role with significant cross-functional influence.
Responsibilities - Lead the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of highly scalable, performant, and reliable backend systems - Drive the technical vision and roadmap for platform and product engineering teams - Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality features aligned with customer needs and quality standards - Mentor and influence engineers through architectural guidance, design reviews, and technical leadership - Identify opportunities to evolve system architecture, reliability, and performance as usage scales
Requirements - Extensive experience as a backend software engineer, ideally at a senior or staff level - Proven track record designing and operating large-scale, distributed services - Strong technical leadership skills, including roadmap ownership and mentoring peers - Experience collaborating across product, design, and other engineering functions - Solid foundation in modern backend languages, data modeling, and service architecture - Ability to balance deep technical judgment with product and business context
