About this role

Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain backend services, APIs, and microservices, using languages such as Java or Python. - Develop data pipelines, ELT processes, and integrations that support analytics and reporting across structured and unstructured data. - Improve service and database performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability; investigate production issues and participate in incident response and on-call rotations. - Apply data security, privacy, quality, and governance practices, and collaborate with analysts and data scientists on data availability and accuracy. - Maintain CI/CD workflows, deployment automation, and documentation for code, architecture, and data processes. - Guide technical design and delivery, collaborate across disciplines, and mentor less experienced engineers.

Requirements - At least eight years of software engineering experience involving data pipelines, integration, and database management. - Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Scala, with knowledge of data modeling, ELT, and warehousing. - Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, and services such as S3, Glue, Athena, DynamoDB, or Kinesis. - Hands-on experience with data integration and orchestration tools such as Fivetran and Airflow. - Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases and data warehouses; examples listed include Aurora, Cassandra, DynamoDB, and Snowflake. - Ability to lead ambiguous work through design, deployment, and operations, communicate with technical and non-technical partners, and mentor engineers.

Nice to have - A relevant master’s degree or AWS-related certification. - Experience with Kubernetes or other cloud-based containerized workloads. - Responsible use of AI tools, including reviewing generated output and protecting sensitive information.

Benefits and work setup - Remote work is available within Ontario or British Columbia, Canada. - The listed annual base salary range is CAD 156,800–196,000; pay is calibrated based in part on skills, experience, and work location. - Eligible employees may receive annual bonuses.
