Role overview A senior engineering position is available on a card network integration team that builds the backend plumbing behind modern card issuing. The work spans large-scale batch and event-driven processing of settlement and transaction data, with a clear remit to turn ideas into production-quality software that ships against quarterly goals. The role is remote-first and open to engineers based in Ontario or British Columbia, Canada.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain backend services that process card network settlement and transaction data at scale, including both batch and event-driven flows. - Support digital wallet token provisioning flows for major mobile wallet platforms. - Implement services around chargebacks and disputes, ACH money movement, ATM network transfers, credit APRs and fees, and 3DS access control. - Architect and ship large features end-to-end, partnering with product managers to scope and estimate new initiatives and with other engineers to prioritize delivery. - Participate in on-call coverage and drive rapid diagnosis and resolution of production issues. - Where applicable, contribute to DevOps and infrastructure work, guiding cloud architecture choices for scaling, resilience, and global availability.
Requirements - 5+ years of professional experience in software or data engineering, ideally within payments or financial services processing. - Strong programming skills in Java and/or Python, with a track record of writing production code with high quality and meaningful test coverage. - Hands-on experience designing, building, and operating batch and event processing systems. - Experience with batch data processing using query engines such as Athena or Trino/Presto. - Comfort making technical trade-offs, navigating ambiguity, and identifying root causes of production issues quickly. - Demonstrated ability to mentor other engineers and collaborate effectively across product, engineering, and operations teams.
Nice to have - Direct payments or FinTech industry experience. - Background with microservices architectures and Java Spring Boot. - Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools like Airflow. - Production experience with modern cloud platforms (other clouds welcome alongside AWS) and with deployment tooling such as Kubernetes and Docker. - Experience with CI/CD pipelines and software delivery orchestration. - Public technical contributions such as blogs, a GitHub portfolio, or open-source work.
