Java Senior Software Engineer

Role overview Join a small, highly skilled engineering team building a scalable, geo-distributed database platform that powers applications used by billions of people every day. As a senior Java engineer, you will lead development on core database components, dive deep into replication, sharding, and concurrency, and guide other engineers on the project. Expect hands-on work on performance-critical systems with both on-premise and cloud-based deployments.

Responsibilities - Design, develop, and test features that improve scalability, performance, and reliability of a distributed database system - Profile, debug, and tune performance using tools such as JFR, JMC, async-profiler, and VisualVM - Implement data structures and on-disk storage strategies optimized for high-throughput, data-intensive workloads - Build network communication and replication between nodes, including failure detection and recovery mechanisms - Develop and integrate high-availability algorithms across the cluster and investigate data-consistency edge cases - Mentor and coordinate a group of software engineers, and collaborate across globally distributed teams using Git-based workflows

Requirements - 4+ years of professional Java programming experience - Deep knowledge of concurrency in Java, the Java Memory Model, and Java SE internals (IO, JVM, etc.) - Strong SQL background with experience troubleshooting Java applications or databases - Familiarity with distributed-systems concepts such as Raft, MVCC, ACID, P2PL, and the distinction between Snapshot Isolation and REPEATABLE READ - Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and debugging skills in fast-paced, collaborative environments

Nice to have - Experience with NoSQL or distributed databases, including systems like MySQL, PostgreSQL, Apache Ignite, or GridGain - Background building high-load distributed systems and algorithms - Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and public clouds (AWS, GCE, Azure) - Open-source contributions, automation expertise, or performance/load testing experience - Active use of AI-assisted development tools
