Role overview

This senior backend engineering role sets technical direction for a healthcare-focused Audit product team, designing and building scalable, reliable web application systems. The position involves directing AI coding agents as part of the daily workflow while holding a high bar for quality, mentoring teammates, and contributing to backend standards across the organization.

Responsibilities

- Set technical direction for backend development and architect scalable, reliable web application systems. - Direct and review output from AI coding agents while maintaining engineering quality and standards. - Mentor engineers and elevate the team's overall programming maturity, contributing to coding standards. - Serve as the backend voice in cross-team planning and drive cross-functional execution. - Architect and implement complex applications that apply ML techniques to large healthcare datasets, simplifying labor-intensive processes through thoughtful UX. - Balance customer-facing feature development with technical debt cleanup to keep the software suite sustainable. - Bring agentic engineering practices into the team's day-to-day workflow and drive adoption.

Requirements

- 8+ years of backend programming experience, with additional full-stack experience desirable. - Proven experience designing and shipping customer-facing web application products at scale. - Meaningful experience with Java or Scala; Rust highly desired. - Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems running reliably on cloud services at high throughput and availability. - Ability to write Technical Design Documents that translate ambiguous product intent into concrete backend design. - Hands-on experience with agentic engineering tools and workflows in a real production setting. - BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

- Technical leadership on Rust best practices including idioms, safety, and performance as the team scales adoption across greenfield projects.
