Role overview
Build and maintain backend services for a globally distributed Internet of Things network and software-as-a-service platform. This role focuses on reliable, scalable API and infrastructure development, with close collaboration across frontend, embedded software, and operational teams in a small, technically ambitious environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop backend components for a global IoT network and SaaS infrastructure. - Design and improve APIs with a strong focus on usability, compatibility, maintainability, performance, and reliability. - Collaborate with frontend and embedded software engineers to deliver coherent end-to-end functionality. - Select technologies thoughtfully and adapt implementation choices as product and business priorities evolve. - Write automated tests, participate in code reviews, and contribute to detailed technical and functional documentation. - Review customer feedback and help improve products and services based on real-world usage.
Requirements
- At least a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience. - Professional backend development experience with JavaScript or Node.js, including strong knowledge of JSON and BSON. - Familiarity with API design, real-time processing, WebSockets, and message brokers such as MQTT or AMQP. - Experience with Docker, microservices, distributed systems, scalability, high availability, and reverse-proxy concepts. - Comfort working in a fully Linux-based development and server environment, using Git and agile tools such as JIRA. - Fluent English communication and a collaborative, adaptable attitude suited to a small technology team.
Nice to have
- Experience with Elasticsearch or other time-series technologies. - Knowledge of cross-data-centre replication, global infrastructure, DevOps practices, and Nginx. - Interest in IoT, connected devices, and emerging technology.
