Remote job
Software Engineer: Back-End
Job details
About this role
Role overview A platform-focused software engineering role responsible for building the backend services, APIs, and data layers powering a large enterprise governance, risk, and compliance platform. The engineer owns a defined slice of the system, ships production-grade features independently, and contributes to the long-term cloud architecture. It is a hands-on role suited to someone comfortable owning a domain end-to-end in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities - Design and implement backend features and REST APIs using Java, Kotlin, and Spring Boot, from requirements through production release. - Write clean, well-tested code with comprehensive unit and integration tests using JUnit, following the testing pyramid. - Independently debug distributed services by reading logs, analyzing request flows, and using monitoring and session analytics. - Serve as the subject matter expert for an owned platform area such as a workflow engine or reporting service. - Participate in technical specification reviews, produce effort estimates, and author API contracts, data models, and operational runbooks. - Work with PostgreSQL, graph databases, caching layers, and message brokers to manage and optimize data flow across microservices. - Collaborate with product, QA, and frontend engineers in Agile sprints, communicating dependencies and blockers proactively.
Requirements - 3–5 years of professional backend, platform, or systems engineering experience in a high-growth setting. - Strong proficiency with Java or Kotlin (or a comparable JVM language) and frameworks such as Spring Boot. - Demonstrated skill designing, versioning, and maintaining production REST APIs consumed across teams. - Practical relational database experience, including complex queries, schema migrations, and performance analysis. - Ability to debug distributed backend systems using logs and enterprise monitoring tools such as Datadog, GitLab Ultimate, Sonarqube, or Wiz. - Hands-on use of AI coding assistants like Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or Claude Code in a normal development workflow.
Nice to have - Fluency with Go alongside the JVM stack. - Familiarity with graph databases (Neo4j), message queues (RabbitMQ), or distributed caching (Redis). - Background building multi-tenant B2B SaaS applications with strict isolation and high availability requirements. - Deep understanding of event-driven architectures, microservices patterns, or containerized production systems.
