Remote job
Telecom & Modem Engineer (Senior/Staff)
Job details
About this role
Role overview Build diagnostic capabilities that help connectivity engineers trace failures across cellular and Wi-Fi systems, from low-level device evidence through operating-system interfaces. The role has two specialist tracks: cellular modem engineering or Wi-Fi and connected-device networking. You will turn traces and logs into cross-layer root-cause analysis grounded in the customer’s own system.
Responsibilities - Develop parsers and analysis for cellular diagnostics, including DIAG and QMI traces, modem dumps, and crash logs. - Develop analysis for access point and CPE evidence such as wireless driver and firmware logs, hostapd/wpa_supplicant logs, system logs, and packet captures. - Connect cellular failures across NAS, RRC, lower protocol layers, and the RIL/radio HAL boundary into Android. - Investigate Wi-Fi association, authentication, roaming, mesh, throughput, interference, and driver or firmware crashes. - Encode connectivity-stack knowledge so the diagnostic platform can explain failures and support grounded remediation.
Requirements - Typically 8 or more years of relevant engineering experience; shorter experience may fit where someone has owned a broad connectivity surface at a startup. - Deep experience in at least one track: - Cellular: modem/baseband bringup, debugging, or protocol stacks; DIAG/QMI and QXDM/QCAT; 4G/5G NAS, RRC, and lower-layer behavior; IMS/VoLTE/VoNR troubleshooting; or the RIL/radio HAL boundary. - Wi-Fi/CPE: OpenWrt-based access points or CPE; Wi-Fi 6/7; hostapd/wpa_supplicant and mac80211/cfg80211; vendor SDKs; or debugging from wireless traces and packet captures. - Proficiency with command-line AI coding tools in everyday work.
Nice to have - Qualcomm or MediaTek modem internals, carrier certification, lab or field debugging, or log-analysis and ML tooling. - RAN knowledge, mesh and device-management standards, RF troubleshooting, FTTH/ONT familiarity, or operator acceptance testing.
Benefits and work setup - Top-of-market salary, founding equity, comprehensive medical insurance for the employee and family, and flexible time off. - Early ownership, visibility into product direction, and access to useful AI tools, with a small team and direct collaboration with company leadership.
