Job details
About this role
Role overview Join the Product Platform team as a Senior Software Engineer supporting the foundational API layer that powers the company's full suite of financial products. The team's mission is to deliver an industry-leading fintech API that is reliable, consistent, and a pleasure to integrate with. Work spans API Gateway, an Events Platform, API key management and authorization, audit logging, search, and the broader API norms and versioning strategy that shape how external developers consume the platform.
Responsibilities - Write reliable, secure, and scalable code for the product platform while keeping technical debt to a minimum - Strengthen the reliability of systems in the team's scope and participate in the on-call rotation - Own projects end-to-end from planning through launch, covering areas like API key management, reliability, audit logging, and search, while keeping stakeholders informed - Lead initiatives that improve the team's systems, processes, and engineering practices - Collaborate with partners across product and engineering to align on API design tradeoffs and customer-facing impact
Requirements - 4+ years building production backend systems, ideally including public-facing APIs operating at scale - Hands-on experience with Rust, or strong willingness to learn it, plus ability to read and reason about systems written in Python and Java - Demonstrated interest and experience using AI tools to boost engineering productivity - Track record of navigating ambiguity, aligning diverse perspectives, and driving toward practical outcomes - Solid grasp of API design fundamentals: versioning, backward compatibility, schema-driven development, and customer-centric tradeoff analysis - Comfort designing systems from scratch and owning the full product development lifecycle - Strong written communication skills and experience working on a remote, async-first team spread across multiple time zones
Nice to have - Familiarity with card issuing, payments, or other regulated financial APIs - Experience shaping developer-facing products where ergonomics and documentation matter as much as backend correctness
Benefits and work setup - Annual US salary range of $160,000 to $200,000 plus equity, narrowed during the interview process based on experience - Fully remote position; candidates must reside in the United States, Canada, Netherlands, Poland, or Czech Republic - Visa sponsorship and assistance are not offered - Unlimited paid time off - 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave - 4-week fully paid sabbatical earned at the 5-year anniversary - 4 weeks per year to work from anywhere in the world - Health, vision, and dental insurance with HSA contribution match - 401(k) match and voluntary life insurance plus short- and long-term disability coverage - For employees based near the NYC headquarters: a hybrid schedule with two core in-office days plus a third team-coordinated day, commuter benefits, and catered lunches on in-office days
