Role overview
This senior leadership role directs analytics and data science for the monthly active user (MAU) function of a large consumer app, leading decision scientists and data scientists across acquisition, activation, engagement, and retention. The position partners with a revenue counterpart and data engineering leadership to align metrics and experimentation practices. A core expectation is moving the team from reactive analysis into an embedded, strategic role in product roadmaps.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop decision scientists and data scientists, setting the quality bar for both disciplines - Own the MAU driver model and forecast - Drive exploratory analysis that shapes strategy to grow monthly active users - Establish standards for how analysis gets scoped, run, reviewed, and written up - Partner with revenue and data engineering leadership to define common metrics, align on experimentation, and shape roadmaps - Use coding agents daily in personal analytical work and shape how the team operates in an AI-native way - Coach team members to operate as trusted advisors rather than reactive task executors
Requirements
- 10+ years in analytics, decision science, or data science, with 5+ years in people management - Deep expertise in inferential and causal analytics; able to lead ML practitioners - Expert knowledge of engagement, retention, churn, and cohort metrics - Experience forecasting a company-level metric and being held to the forecast - Strong SQL plus Python or R, with experience using Databricks, experimentation tools such as Statsig, BI tools like Tableau, and AI-native BI tools - Hands-on use of coding agents in personal analytical work - Bachelor's degree or equivalent
Nice to have
- Familiarity with experiment design to identify and control for network effects - Master's or PhD with emphasis in social science, psychology, or behavioral science - Experience leading a team embedded with product and engineering organizations - Background in a B2C subscription business
