Remote job
Senior Backend Engineer II, AI Native, Vertical Experiences
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Design, build, and operate backend services for connected-device features in a high-traffic consumer product. The work sits between hardware, firmware, mobile applications, and product teams: you will turn device signals into dependable systems for state management, telemetry, health monitoring, commands, and new experiences. This is a senior, systems-oriented role for an engineer who enjoys distributed systems, frequent production delivery, incident response, and using AI agents as a core part of the development workflow.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain scalable backend services for device connectivity, telemetry ingestion, monitoring, and command or control operations. - Work with firmware, mobile, design, and product partners to define APIs, data flows, and end-to-end workflows for device capabilities. - Deliver resilient microservices on cloud infrastructure using container orchestration, serverless components, managed databases, queues, and related services. - Build and own high-throughput streaming and data pipelines using Kafka or comparable event-processing technology. - Instrument systems for observability, reliability, and service-level objectives; participate in on-call rotations and live incident response. - Write clean, testable, performant code while improving CI/CD, deployment automation, and engineering practices. - Orchestrate AI coding agents for specifications, implementation, test creation, incident triage, pull-request review, and system design, and share effective practices with the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent professional experience. - At least five years building backend services in Java, Go, Python, or a comparable language. - Strong experience with microservices, RESTful API design, distributed systems, and production operations. - Practical cloud-infrastructure experience, preferably with AWS, container orchestration, and automated deployments. - Experience with relational or NoSQL databases, caching systems, and event or streaming platforms. - Comfortable collaborating across engineering and product disciplines and owning services through their full lifecycle. - Demonstrated interest in AI-native development and the ability to evaluate, verify, and improve agent-generated work.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-first work environment within the United States or Canada. - Compensation includes medical, dental, vision, life, disability, financial, equity, parental-leave, wellness, paid-time-off, learning, and home-office support programs, subject to location and eligibility.
