Applied AI Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview
This is a senior or staff-level Applied AI Engineer opening focused on hardening production machine learning features that turn raw work activity into the concepts professional services firms actually plan around—matters, tasks, narratives, work codes, and daily themes. The charter is to make those AI suggestions trustworthy enough that firms accept them, that the system covers the full working day, and that behavior stays consistent across an entire organization. Dependability, not novelty, is the success metric that drives growth.
Responsibilities
- Own AI features end-to-end, from problem framing through general availability, spanning initiative classification, narratives, work codes, daily themes, compliance signals, and vision extraction. - Move features through staged rollout tiers (prototype, design partner, beta, GA), earning each promotion with an evaluation baseline and a capacity plan. - Build and defend evaluations: golden datasets, a north-star metric per feature, and online monitoring so behavior is provable rather than assumed. - Lead the meaning layer of the semantic stack—retrieval semantics, embedding quality, and label flywheels that feed prompt optimization and golden sets—and partner with the AI platform team on vector and knowledge-graph stores. - Improve output quality through context construction, prompt optimization, and per-customer or per-firm generation tuning. - Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define success measures and ship high-quality solutions.
Requirements
- Senior or staff-level experience owning AI or ML features in production. - Strong proficiency in Python or TypeScript, with working knowledge of a modern backend stack such as Node.js, NestJS, MongoDB, and message queues. - Fluent, opinionated use of AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or agentic coding workflows) and a clear view on where they help and where they do not. - Proven track record of early action and initiative—taking ownership rather than waiting for direction. - Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. - Excellent communication and collaboration skills, plus a customer mindset and demonstrated ability to engage with users to understand their needs.
Nice to have
- Comfort across the broader modern backend stack, including Node.js/NestJS, MongoDB, and message queues.
Benefits and work setup
- Equity and 401K participation. - Bi-annual, in-person company off-sites in unique locations to build team connection. - Visa sponsorship and relocation assistance are not offered for this role; sponsorship requests are reviewed case by case. - Collaborative, inclusive team culture with a stated commitment to diverse perspectives and equal opportunity employment.
