Staff Engineer (Multiple Positions)

Role overview This Staff Engineer position is an individual-contributor leadership role focused on shaping technical direction across a platform that powers large-scale feature management, experimentation, and AI-driven software delivery. The work spans platform infrastructure, APIs, SDKs, data systems, observability, and agent capabilities, with influence reaching beyond a single team. Success comes from connecting customer needs, business outcomes, and engineering execution while leading through expertise rather than direct management.

Responsibilities - Set technical direction for complex, high-impact systems and cross-team initiatives spanning platform, data, SDKs, and AI surfaces. - Lead architecture and design work that improves scalability, performance, reliability, security, operability, and developer experience. - Clarify ambiguous problems, identify the highest-leverage opportunities, and guide teams toward timely, well-informed decisions. - Partner with product, design, engineering managers, and senior leaders to connect technical investments to customer and business outcomes. - Influence teams outside the immediate area through strong technical proposals, inclusive decision-making, and clear communication. - Improve engineering effectiveness with reusable patterns, paved paths, documentation, mentoring, and thoughtful process improvements. - Contribute hands-on to critical projects when direct technical work creates the most leverage, and represent production realities in planning discussions. - Develop other engineers through mentorship, feedback, and opportunities to expand their scope.

Requirements - Typically 10+ years of relevant industry experience in software engineering. - Deep understanding of event-driven architectures, streaming protocols such as Server-Sent Events and WebSockets, and stateful connection management at scale. - Strong expertise in Go, Java, Rust, or similar systems programming languages. - Significant experience delivering and operating production software with meaningful scale, complexity, or reliability requirements. - Demonstrated technical leadership across team or organizational boundaries without relying on formal authority. - Track record of turning ambiguous, high-impact problems into aligned plans and shipped outcomes, with strong judgment on tradeoffs.

Nice to have - Familiarity with feature flagging, gradual rollouts, experimentation systems, or AI/agent control planes. - Background in building SDKs or developer-facing tooling that other engineers depend on daily. - Experience shaping platforms used at trillions of evaluations per day or similarly extreme throughput.
