Senior Backend Engineer (Multiple Positions)
Job details
About this role
Role overview Senior backend engineering opportunity on multiple product teams building the distributed services behind a high-scale software delivery platform. The work centers on designing, running, and evolving production APIs and data pipelines that handle trillions of daily operations for customers worldwide. Engineers in these roles partner across product, design, infrastructure, and adjacent engineering groups to deliver reliable, observable systems that power feature management, experimentation, and observability experiences.
Responsibilities - Lead design and delivery of complex or ambiguous backend projects, breaking them into milestones and aligning partners along the way. - Build, test, and operate scalable, secure, observable services and APIs that perform under heavy production load. - Evaluate tradeoffs across scalability, performance, reliability, security, maintainability, cost, and delivery speed, and communicate those decisions clearly. - Spot architectural risks, performance hotspots, and operational gaps, then drive durable improvements. - Strengthen observability and operability through metrics, logs, traces, alerting, SLOs, and incident follow-through. - Collaborate with product, design, support, and customer success teams to translate customer needs into measurable outcomes. - Influence technical direction through design docs, code reviews, and architecture discussions. - Mentor engineers, raise decision-making quality, and contribute to inclusive engineering culture. - Participate in production support and incident response, turning operational lessons into lasting improvements. - Shape reusable patterns and developer experiences that help other teams move faster.
Requirements - 7+ years building and operating production software with a clear record of customer or business impact. - Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, testing, debugging, API design, and distributed systems. - Deep experience with a backend language such as Go, Python, Rust, or equivalent; most teams work primarily in Go. - Track record designing systems that stay reliable, observable, secure, and maintainable as usage and complexity grow. - Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects with ambiguous requirements, multiple stakeholders, or cross-team dependencies. - Sound judgment when weighing architecture, technology choices, operational risk, and short- versus long-term tradeoffs. - Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to build alignment across technical and non-technical partners. - Experience mentoring engineers and improving team practices through feedback, documentation, pairing, or technical leadership. - Strong ownership of production outcomes and downstream customer impact.
Nice to have - Background in distributed systems, developer tooling, data platforms, SDK infrastructure, or AI and agent systems. - Interest in experimentation, observability, feature management, or cloud infrastructure domains.
