Remote job
PIM Engineering Lead
Job details
About this role
Role overview Lead the technical implementation of a Product Information Management (PIM) product that extends a Master Data Management platform with governed product data. The role blends hands-on coding with engineering leadership: designing architecture, writing production code, setting direction, and mentoring a distributed team. The product centers on a taxonomy-driven attribute system with inheritance, provenance tracking, and complex hierarchical relationships, making strong data modeling and graph data experience essential.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end technical architecture for the PIM product, including schema design, taxonomy data structures, attribute inheritance, provenance tracking, and integration with the broader MDM core. - Write production code daily, building core PIM backend services, data models, and critical pipelines. - Set technical direction for the engineering team, review designs, unblock engineers, and ensure alignment with the broader platform architecture. - Design and evolve data structures for large, deeply nested product taxonomies, category hierarchies, attribute inheritance chains, and governed attribute systems. - Mentor engineers through code reviews, design sessions, and pairing, particularly with an offshore engineering team based in India. - Partner with product management to scope features, weigh tradeoffs, and deliver a PIM product that handles real-world enterprise product catalogs.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software or data engineering experience with a strong track record of hands-on technical leadership at the senior or principal level. - Deep data modeling expertise, including production experience designing complex relational schemas, hierarchical data structures, and EAV-style patterns. - Experience managing large product taxonomies, ontologies, or similar graph-backed data structures in production. - Strong Python skills for backend service development, with SQLAlchemy or comparable ORM experience. - Production SQL expertise, including query optimization, indexing strategy, and transactional design. - Familiarity with Databricks or Apache Spark, and the ability to reason about large-scale data operations and lakehouse integration.
Nice to have
- Direct experience building PIM, MDM, PLM, or catalog management systems. - Background in retail, manufacturing, CPG, or other industries with complex product data. - Experience with FastAPI, modern Python async patterns, or Node.js.
Benefits and work setup
- Full-time role based in the USA, fully remote, with regular collaboration alongside an offshore engineering team.
