About this role
Role overview
Forward Deployed Engineer role sitting at the boundary between a core real-time transport SDK and the operational environments where customers run it. The position involves embedding with client teams to scope, build, and ship tailored integrations for teleoperation, robotics, drones, and remote rendering use cases under strict latency budgets. It blends hands-on systems engineering with customer-facing problem solving in the field.
Responsibilities
- Embed with customer teams to understand their machines, networks, and operational constraints, and translate those into concrete technical requirements - Design, build, and deploy customer-specific integrations on top of the SDK and transport layer - Tune end-to-end pipelines to meet strict real-time targets including latency budgets, frame budgets, jitter, and packet loss over QUIC - Integrate with customer hardware and software such as actuators, sensors, video streams, and control stacks - Diagnose and resolve issues in live deployments, often under tight latency and reliability constraints - Feed customer needs and field learnings back into the core product, collaborating with platform and electronics teams on architecture - Produce technical documentation, integration guides, and reference deployments - Conduct senior-level code reviews and uphold engineering quality across customer-facing work
Requirements
- 3 to 10 years of software development experience with a track record of shipping systems to production - Proficiency in Rust, C, or assembly, with the ability to read and debug across all three - Solid understanding of real-time and low-latency systems including latency budgets, frame budgets, scheduling, and back-pressure - Experience with networked or streaming systems and familiarity with QUIC, UDP, and TCP trade-offs - Excellent knowledge of Windows internal architecture, synchronization, memory management, and user-mode vs kernel-mode boundaries - Hands-on experience with Windows debugging and analysis tools and the Visual Studio toolchain - Comfort working directly with customers: gathering requirements, scoping, and communicating technical decisions clearly - Ownership mindset and willingness to travel to customer sites and work in operational environments
Nice to have
- Experience in robotics, drones, autonomous vehicles, or teleoperation - Background in video or media pipelines or signal processing - Familiarity with SDR, embedded systems, or PCB-level hardware integration - Open-source contributions - Prior experience as a forward deployed, field, or solutions engineer
Benefits and work setup
- Market-aligned salary with typical French benefits including health insurance and a 50% transportation card - Positions available in Paris, Singapore, and San Francisco - Full-time permanent contract - Highly technical environment with strong autonomy in technical decision-making - Interview process: 15-minute screening call, two 1-hour technical interviews, followed by an informal team meet and greet
