Senior Software Engineer

Role overview A technology consultancy supporting banks, card networks, and payment providers is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for a high-impact digital payments modernization program. The work involves integrating a major card network into one of the largest U.S. financial institutions, sitting at the intersection of legacy and modern infrastructure. The role combines hands-on engineering with architectural influence across backend, frontend, identity, cloud, and performance.

Responsibilities - Apply domain-driven design to define bounded contexts, domain models, and aggregate boundaries for card-network reference data. - Build and harden Spring Boot services with JPA, PostgreSQL, Liquibase-managed migrations, a Drools rules engine, and scheduled batch jobs, including ground-up authorization and data-access controls. - Design integration workflows and routing using Apache Camel or equivalent, orchestrating stateful multi-step operations. - Build an event-driven backbone with Kafka, including topic/schema design and producer/consumer reliability patterns. - Develop a micro-frontend in Next.js/React/TypeScript designed to converge into a shared micro-frontend shell. - Own OAuth2/OIDC identity architecture end to end, including provider integration, JWT/token validation, and session/revocation design. - Govern AWS IAM, S3, and CloudFront architecture across multiple environments and lead deployment on an internal static cloud hosting platform. - Drive test-driven development and build continuous testing pipelines (unit, contract, integration, end-to-end) as part of CI/CD. - Design and execute performance testing strategies, identify bottlenecks across Java/Oracle/Tomcat/WebSphere and PostgreSQL/OpenShift workloads, and translate findings into recommendations.

Requirements - Extensive experience building full-stack backend services in Java with PostgreSQL and OpenShift Container Platform. - Background in digital payments, card processing, or financial services technology. - Understanding of PCI compliance and secure data handling practices. - Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures and OpenShift-based eventing. - Demonstrated ability to drive TDD practices and build CI/CD automation pipelines. - At least one enterprise-level performance testing engagement, including strategy, tooling, execution, and reporting. - Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to operate in large, matrixed program environments and translate complexity for non-technical audiences. - Bachelor's degree, or equivalent specialized training plus progressively responsible work experience.

Nice to have - Experience with PGLogical or PostgreSQL logical replication. - Exposure to AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot. - Prior work on bank or card network integration programs. - Experience in segregated or air-gapped development environments.
