Job details
About this role
Role overview
Develop sensing systems and scientific methods that help exploration teams gather, interpret, and act on evidence about subsurface mineral deposits. This cross-disciplinary role combines instrument design and deployment with data integration, statistical and physics-based analysis, and 2D and 3D modeling. You’ll work closely with geoscience, operations, and engineering specialists to reduce uncertainty and guide field programs.
Responsibilities
- Design, characterize, calibrate, and deploy instruments and data-acquisition systems for exploration work. - Coordinate with vendors, partners, and field operations teams to build and use hardware in the field. - Gather and integrate geospatial, geophysical, geochemical, geologic, and spectral data into shared systems. - Develop models and software for interpreting sensor and other exploration data, including predictions of subsurface mineralization. - Apply data-processing, statistical, physics-based, spatial, and image-analysis methods to identify patterns and evaluate targets. - Create visualizations, communicate findings to technical and external stakeholders, and help plan follow-up data collection.
Requirements
- Extensive experience with physical measurement and data-analysis systems, systems integration, and data acquisition. - Strong Python and software engineering skills, including collaborative development, testing, and CI/CD practices. - Experience applying scientific, statistical, or physics-based analysis to varied data, including measurements from physical systems. - Ability to build, evaluate, and interpret predictive models, and to communicate results clearly with domain experts. - Demonstrated curiosity, rigor, ownership, and ability to manage complex work across technical disciplines. - Willingness to work with geoscience teams and travel to project sites; the role description estimates 10–20% travel, with at least one week per year expected for employees.
Nice to have
Experience with remote sensing, geospatial machine learning, image processing or computer vision, field sensor deployment, and project or team management.
