Role overview This is a remote Lead Developer role at a developer-led software engineering firm that works on a wide range of projects, from SaaS products and ecommerce platforms to APIs and backend tooling for clients that range from small startups to large global companies. The team operates as a small group of senior crafters who value stability, honesty, relationships over process, and long-term professional growth. The position is full-time and requires availability during Eastern Standard Time business hours.
Responsibilities - Keep the team focused on objectives and help resolve blockers, conflicts, and unclear work - Architect and plan applications and features across the full project lifecycle, applying strong judgement at each stage - Work directly with clients to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions - Take accountability for project quality, organization, and stability, including breaking large tickets into manageable pieces and clarifying ambiguous ones - Hold the bar on UI, UX, design cleanliness, and design balance, and take action when standards slip - Run project meetings when a delivery manager or scrum master is not present, review code carefully, and keep the production deployment path unblocked
Requirements - Prior experience in a lead developer or team lead role - 5+ years of PHP and 4+ years of JavaScript, with experience in a modern framework such as Vue.js or React - 4+ years of Laravel and 4+ years of application design and architecture - Advanced HTML and CSS skills and strong knowledge of database architecture and design - Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and a track record of successful development and team workflows - Strong critical thinking, communication, and writing skills, with a detail-oriented commitment to quality work - Must be available 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time; a bachelor's degree and prior client-facing experience are preferred
Nice to have - Open-source contributions and a demonstrated interest in the Laravel ecosystem - Experience mentoring other developers and shaping engineering culture
