Job details
About this role
Role overview Build software and community experiences that expand access to technical interview preparation for a large network of software engineers. The position combines hands-on engineering with community program work: roughly 70% engineering and 30% community operations. As the program’s sole engineer, you will take projects from identifying a need through design and release while staying engaged with members.
Responsibilities - Lead technical projects from discovery and design through launch, including work with unclear requirements. - Build and maintain reliable services, APIs, and components, taking responsibility for the quality of the code you change. - Add large language model capabilities to interview preparation offerings and develop useful learning experiences around current engineering practices. - Create automations and tools for community operations, such as newsletter workflows, chat integrations, and candidate resources. - Use AI-assisted development tools as part of your engineering workflow. - Support the community day to day by moderating its discussion space, engaging with members at different career stages, and joining study groups. - Notice unmet needs in the community and turn them into practical technical solutions.
Requirements - At least five years of professional experience delivering web applications or distributed systems to production. - Experience with modern programming languages and frameworks; Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Ruby are preferred. - Comfort working across the stack, including API design, system architecture, databases, cloud infrastructure, and deployment. - Experience with AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or comparable cloud environments. - Familiarity with LLM APIs or AI-enabled product features, and interest in applying AI/ML to learning or community experiences. - A record of independently delivering projects from problem discovery to a reliable shipped result. - Clear written and verbal communication, and comfort explaining technical topics to non-technical audiences. - Active participation in a technical community through mentoring, advising, contributing, or similar engagement.
Nice to have - Experience building community-facing tools, such as chat bots, workflow automations, or developer portals.
Benefits and work setup - The team works remotely, but applicants must reside in California, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, New York, Oregon, Texas, or Washington. - Visa sponsorship is unavailable. - U.S. base pay varies by geographic tier, with listed annual ranges from $110,098.87 to $180,178.30.
