Staff Backend Engineer - Submission Processing

Role overview A Staff Backend Engineer role on the Submission Processing team, fully remote within the United States. The work focuses on building and scaling LLM-based systems that process massive volumes of data and extract the signals insurers need for high-stakes decisions.

Responsibilities - Design and own the architecture for systems that ingest and process billions of unstructured data points daily - Make architectural decisions under ambiguity and help set the technical direction for the team - Build and scale production LLM-driven pipelines that surface accurate, decision-ready insights - Extract precise information from documents, third-party sources, and other inputs that feed underwriting workflows - Collaborate closely with a small, global engineering team where individual contributions have outsized impact

Requirements - Eight or more years of professional software engineering experience - Track record of owning work end to end and driving projects to completion with minimal oversight - Strong fundamentals in system design, debugging, and problem-solving - Production experience deploying LLMs at scale - Proficiency in Python, with openness to strong object-oriented backgrounds - Experience with AWS serverless technologies such as Lambda and EC2, asynchronous workflows, and cloud environments - Comfort with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL

Nice to have - Experience with document pipelines and processing very large volumes of data
