Role overview A Staff Backend Engineer position on the Core Product team focused on building the reliable data and intelligence systems that underpin the platform's decision-making. The work centers on fragmented, high-value insurance data, with the goal of producing an intelligence layer that delivers faster, more transparent, and more explainable outputs. This is a high-ownership, remote role based in the US.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop backend services, data models, and pipelines that form the core data infrastructure. - Build and refine evaluation loops and intelligence components that improve decision quality and explainability. - Take ownership of business-critical systems end to end, driving projects to completion with minimal oversight. - Proactively communicate progress, surface blockers, and keep stakeholders informed. - Experiment rapidly, measuring outcomes and iterating on approaches to problems without established solutions. - Apply strong fundamentals in system design and debugging to maintain reliability across services.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience. - Strong proficiency in Python; candidates from other object-oriented backgrounds are welcome. - Hands-on experience with serverless technologies (such as Lambda or EC2), asynchronous workflows, and cloud environments. - Comfort with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL. - Demonstrated ownership mindset, strong craft, and proactive communication style.

- Experience with large language models, generative AI, or distributed systems.
