Staff Backend Engineer - Core Product (USA)

Role overview

Build backend systems that turn fragmented, high-value data into reliable and explainable decisions for insurance workflows. You’ll work on core services, data models, pipelines, and evaluation loops that support business-critical products, with ownership from design through delivery.

Responsibilities

- Design and maintain backend services, data models, and pipelines for core product systems. - Improve the completeness and quality of fragmented data used in operational decisions. - Build evaluation loops that help measure and improve system performance. - Make decisions more transparent and products more useful through dependable infrastructure. - Take projects from initial problem framing to delivery, communicating progress and surfacing blockers. - Experiment, measure results, and iterate on problems with no established solution.

Requirements

- At least eight years of software engineering experience. - Strong foundations in system design, debugging, and problem solving. - Proficiency in Python, or strong experience in another object-oriented language. - Experience with serverless technologies, asynchronous workflows, and cloud environments. - Comfort working with relational databases; PostgreSQL experience is preferred. - Ability to own work independently, communicate proactively, and drive projects to completion.

Nice to have

- Experience with large language models or generative AI, or with distributed systems.
