Role overview
This remote software engineering role focuses on designing, operating, and improving highly available open-source database platforms within a cloud and Kubernetes environment. The work combines database reliability, performance optimization, data protection, infrastructure automation, and collaboration with engineering teams across time zones. The position also includes participation in an on-call rotation.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to highly available database solutions using MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and TiDB. - Review existing database architectures, identify gaps, and recommend practical improvements. - Establish reliable backup and data-protection practices for production and non-production environments. - Investigate slow queries and other database issues, applying optimizations that improve performance. - Automate operational tasks through infrastructure-as-code and configuration-management practices. - Collaborate with DevOps, architecture, and business stakeholders to develop supportable solutions, including systems that cannot depend solely on managed cloud databases.
Requirements
- Comfortable working in Linux environments, including Rocky Linux, CentOS, RHEL, or Ubuntu. - Familiarity with configuration-management tools; Ansible experience is preferred. - Able to analyze complex infrastructure and database problems and develop effective solutions. - Strong written and verbal communication skills when working with distributed and cross-functional teams. - Basic project-management ability for organizing tasks, timelines, and priorities. - Willingness to participate in on-call support and expand into additional data technologies such as Redis or FoundationDB.
