Senior Software Developer (JCP Core Foundation Licensing and Quotation)

Role overview This role owns the backend services that determine what customers are entitled to use and ensure accurate billing for a major developer tools vendor. It sits on the critical path of every paid request, where errors translate directly into revenue impact. The work spans designing complex distributed systems, evolving entitlement and metering models, and shipping revenue-affecting migrations without downtime.

Responsibilities - Design, build, and operate backend services that decide customer entitlements and translate usage into costs - Own end-to-end data flows from ingesting licensing and purchase data through enforcing quotas to recording consumption - Evolve the domain model to combine seat-based plans with usage-based commercial structures - Design integrations with external systems, ensuring correctness through idempotency, ordering, reconciliation, and eventual consistency - Plan and execute live data migrations using feature flags, dual writes, backfills, and staged verification - Build observability through invariants, metrics, and alerts that catch silent divergence before customers notice - Define versioned, backward-compatible internal APIs with strong developer experience for other engineering teams - Investigate production incidents, identify root causes, and ship durable fixes

Requirements - Proven track record building and operating JVM backend services in Kotlin or Java - Solid working knowledge of relational databases, including transactions, isolation levels, locking, indexing, and live schema migrations (PostgreSQL preferred) - Deep understanding of distributed systems patterns such as idempotency, retry strategies, eventual consistency, and reconciliation - Practical experience executing zero-downtime data migrations via feature flags and staged rollouts - Hands-on experience designing versioned, backward-compatible APIs for other engineering teams - Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures and message brokers such as Kafka - Strong written and spoken English communication
