Job details
About this role
Role overview A foundational builder role on a newly forming Developer Operations team responsible for owning and maturing the GitHub platform and adjacent SDLC tools across an engineering organization of roughly 350 daily software contributors. The position focuses on turning an underserved platform into a trusted, automated system where the safe path is also the default path, with a target of full baseline compliance across all repositories within twelve months.
Responsibilities - Act as the accountable owner of GitHub across multiple organizations, hundreds of repositories, and 300+ developers, setting the operational and security baseline. - Build golden paths for repo creation, branch protections, rulesets, required reviews, secret scanning, and least-privilege access so teams adopt secure defaults without reading documentation. - Automate compliance through configuration drift detection, reporting, and guided enforcement using bots and dashboards, partnering with platform security on access controls and alerting. - Lead phased change management, piloting changes with selected teams and providing hands-on migration support as rollout expands. - Extend the operating model beyond GitHub to other SDLC tools such as Jira, Datadog, and JFrog as scope broadens.
Requirements - Significant experience owning a developer platform such as GitHub at scale, including administration, governance, and security configuration. - Strong scripting and automation skills paired with a security-minded approach to access, secrets, and policy enforcement. - Track record of driving change across many teams, including managing pushback and bringing people along collaboratively. - Ability to balance independent decision-making with input from cross-functional partners in security, delivery engineering, and developer experience. - Excellent communication skills for translating technical standards into guidance that engineering teams actually follow.
Nice to have - Experience with Jira, Datadog, JFrog, or comparable SDLC tooling. - Familiarity with agentic or AI-assisted development workflows and their implications for platform design. - Background shaping a new team, function, or practice from an early stage.
Benefits and work setup - Annual salary range of CAD$128,000 to CAD$200,000, with a typical starting point of CAD$152,000 for accomplished hires. - Equity through a stock option plan with multiple exercise opportunities. - Comprehensive benefits package and regular career development conversations tied to compensation growth.
