Role overview A consulting group is hiring a senior Data Engineer to support a legal-focused infrastructure team. The role centers on designing, building, and maintaining high-complexity data pipelines, data warehousing solutions, and monitoring systems that keep large-scale datasets flowing reliably. The engineer will lead cross-functional work end-to-end, partnering with attorneys, data scientists, engineers, and other stakeholders in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities - Build and modify high-complexity ETL and data pipelines that extract, transform, and process large-scale datasets. - Design data warehousing solutions and optimize queries and pipelines for performance, scale, and reliability. - Develop and maintain monitoring and alerting systems that surface data, infrastructure, or workflow issues before they escalate. - Lead end-to-end data engineering initiatives, including planning, documentation, stakeholder coordination, system design, and delivery. - Identify potential data and system risks early and implement fixes that improve reliability, efficiency, and operational visibility. - Communicate technical concepts and project status clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements - 5-7+ years of experience in data engineering or a closely related field. - Expert-level SQL skills, including hands-on work with relational or distributed query engines such as Presto, PostgreSQL, or MySQL. - Expert-level Python programming experience. - Expert-level experience building and managing ETL/data pipelines with orchestration tools such as Airflow or comparable technologies. - Demonstrated track record leading data engineering work on large, cross-functional projects involving both technical and non-technical stakeholders. - Demonstrated ability to design and deliver high-complexity monitoring and alerting systems. - Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently across multiple stakeholder groups. - Solid understanding of data privacy and security considerations in data engineering environments. - Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.

Nice to have - Experience using AI to accelerate delivery or building AI-enabled components that automate workflows for non-technical stakeholders. - Background supporting highly regulated industries such as legal, compliance, finance, security, or privacy. - Mentoring experience with junior engineers or other technical team members. - Experience in startups, small organizations, or ambiguous environments with broad ownership and scope. - Data loss remediation or broader data protection initiative experience. - Volunteer, internship, or work history tied to a law firm or privacy-related environments.
